The Victorian Department of Education funds the Glasses for Kids program.
From 2024, an additional $2.9 million has been made available to continue the initiative.
This builds on the $2.9 million the Victorian Government has already provided to this initiative between 2015 and 2023. Now, the Victorian Government is making sure even more young Victorians can see clearly in the classroom.
Further funding of $6.8 million will triple the size of the program from 2025 – 2027 reaching a further 74,000 Prep to Grade 3 students at 473 government schools across the state.
CR Labs has been the major supplier of optical lenses for the Glasses for Kids program since its inception.
Based in Dandenong, CR Labs began its history as a small family business and has grown to become one of Australia’s premium and most innovative optical lens manufacturers.
Eyes Right Optical has been one of the main optical frame suppliers for Glasses for Kids since the program’s inception. Eyes Right Optical is a Victorian family business established in 1992 and is an Australian wholesaler and distributor of high-quality optical frames.
Glasses for Kids has partnered with a range of optometrists who help facilitate our in-school visits. All our partner optometrists are registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, and all have current Working with Children Checks. These optometrists also contribute to our Partner Clinics Network. These supportive clinics not only carry a selection of our eyewear for fittings but also have knowledgeable staff well-versed in our program.
While families are welcome to visit any clinic to act on a referral from the in-school visit, many prefer to schedule appointments with the optometrist from their child’s school screening or with one of our dedicated partner clinics.
Are you an optometrist looking to make a difference? Join us in our mission to bring clear vision to children across Victoria. For more information on how you can contribute to our school screenings or become a part of our Partner Clinics Network, please reach out to us via this form and our GFK Procurement Manager will be in touch.
